BURNLEY’S reserve team were unable to go top of Central League West as they were held 0- by Carlisle last night.
The Clarets included Diego Penny and Jay Rodriguez in their line-up and had the better of the clash at Accrington’s Fraser Eagle Stadium.
The draw maintains Burnley’s unbeaten start to the season but they could not secure the three points that would have taken them above Carlisle, who currently lead the division but have played two matches more than the Clarets.
Rodriguez had an 11th-minute strike ruled out for offside and Dan Brown cut inside to fire just wide. Carlisle goalkeeper Chris Howarth then had to deny James Craggs.
Craggs was played in after the interval only to see his shot again stopped, while Penny kept out former Leeds and England U21 striker Michael Bridges’ 25-yard free kick.
Burnley: Diego Penny; Dan Brown, Nik Kudiersky, Chris Lynch, Jake McEneaney; Alex MacDonald (Dilveer Chagger 77), Adam Kay, Chris Anderson, Michael King (Liam Newman 86); Jay Rodriguez (Dominic Knowles 73), James Craggs. Subs not used: Gabor Kiraly, Oliver Devenney.
